How does acupuncture work?
The system of acupuncture is based on the Meridian System and the balance and flow of energy known as Qi (Chee). Energy flows in lines called meridians up and down the body. It is believed that illness and pain occur when the meridians become unbalanced or blocked, so the energy can no longer flow freely. Fine, sterile, single use needles are placed on the body to help regulate this flow of energy, encouraging a healing response and restoring balance.
What is Moxibustion?
Moxibustion is a heat therapy utilizing Moxa, or Mugwort herb (Artemisia Vulgaris). It is used with the intention of stimulating circulation and inducing a smooth flow of Qi and blood.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture employs very thin, disposable needles. The needle is solid. It is unlike a hollow hypodermic needle. Most patients feel only a minimal pricking sensation as the needles are inserted, some do not feel anything at all.
